p. 1 INTRODUCTION

(This page was typed by NVMS 6th grader, Michael, during the spring of 2002 and edited by Dean Bones.)

In presenting this History of the Little Nestucca Country to the public. I hope to picture a true account of the days of early pioneers and follow along to the improvements and developments which have been accomplished through their efforts and their descendants' efforts and that of many persons who have worked hard to improve the land and opportunities it afforded; to develop the beaches into resorts and the dairy industry into prosperous, thriving, paying and pleasant means of livelihood.

It has required untiring efforts and work for men and women to change this undeveloped, naturally beautiful land into modern homes equipped with conveniences and machinery to make housework and dairy work a pleasure instead of drudgery.

This History has caused me many weeks and months of research to obtain as nearly as possible the truth of each statement herein given. No doubt many may criticize some statements, perhaps justifiably, but if error has been made, it has been through lack of memory or a chance to consult with pioneers who have long since passed over the Great Divide or who have moved to very distant places.

In my untiring efforts, I have been greatly aided and indebted to many children of the earliest pioneers for helping make this History possible at this time. To them I extend many thanks and and appreciation for their helpful memories and narratives of bygone days.

It would have been impossible for me alone to have accomplished this. At the present writing, I am 81 years of age and came into the Little Nestucca Country 62 years ago.

I expect this History to refresh memories and to entertain all who are interested in this community; also to preserve as nearly as possible a true description of early days because future generations owe so much to the stability of these pioneers who endured so many hardships to make the Little Nestucca Country the wonderfully fine, grand community it now is.
