Excerpts from the Lars John Redberg Diaries of 1909 - 1912 of Life in South Tillamook County especially of Oretown, Oregon.

Edna Redberg very kindly excerpted these interesting portions of the diaries and provided them to NVMS. The complete diaries of Lars John Redberg are in the Pioneer Museum in Tillamook, Oregon. They were donated by Erwin and Edna Redberg.

Oct. 14,1912 - Miss Dorothy Newell is a teacher. Cannery is blocked with fish. Got about 45 tons in one day, mostly chinooks.
Oct. 21,1912 - Cannery is blocked again.
Oct. 23,1912 - Herbert & Louise came home from their Eastern trip. Gathered at Porters - friends & neighbors all had a good time. Refreshments served by Bride & Groom.
Oct. 24,1912 - Fisherman still fishing on the 75 fish per boat limit.
Oct. 26,1912 - Mr. Green still painting & varnishing.
Oct. 31, 1912 - Most of the fishermen quit, as the cannery cut the price of fish to 1/2 cents per pound for all good red salmon.
Nov. 1,1912 - Herbert, Frankie & I picked last of apples.
Nov. 2,1912 - I put some lifts, sash locks, & curtains on our windows yesterday & today.
Nov. 7 ,1912 - Went to beach with Mr. Beckwith & John Fox to help them find coarse sand for flues.
Nov. 10,1912 - Bert Ray & I got the balance of our fish money. We made $740.78 this season from August 21st to October 30th,1912.
Nov. 12, 1912 - Some of Porter's relative & Mr. Lance arrived from the East.
Nov. 15, 1912 - Willie And I fished some today, but caught nothing. the bay is full of snags now.
Nov. 16, 1912 - I went to "Dennis" Sawmill At Neskowin after some strips of finishing lumber for upstairs in our house. I drove Jim and the buggy.
Nov. 20, 1912 - Will Christensen, Ole, & I each hauled 1 load of lumber from Weiss Mill for the Oretown Co-Operative C. Factory.
Nov. 21, 1912 - Foundation Started by Ole and others.
Nov. 22, 1912 - I took Jim and Buggy and returned Steinmassl's carpenter tools. The church foundation in nearly completed.
Nov. 26, 1912 - I went to Etzwilers for beef. I hauled 1/2 of it to Porters, 1/4 to the factory for Mr. Rock, and 1/4 to Father and Mother. Mr.Green brought his white mare here. I'm going to feed her this winter.
Dec. 1, 1912 - Mr.Green came today to board here while painting and varnishing the Grange Hall.
Dec. 2, 1912 - Lester Atterburg and Orilla Gillock were married at our house at noon today by Rev. Roosa. Present were- Mr. and Mrs. Porter, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Porter, Ole Redberg and family, Mr. and Mrs.Lan?, ? and Mabel, Willie, Charles Johnson, Mr. Green and Wife & ?.
