Excerpts from the Lars John Redberg Diaries of 1909 - 1912 of Life in South Tillamook County especially of Oretown, Oregon.

Edna Redberg very kindly excerpted these interesting portions of the diaries and provided them to NVMS. The complete diaries of Lars John Redberg are in the Pioneer Museum in Tillamook, Oregon. They were donated by Erwin and Edna Redberg.

Feb.19,1912 - Gertrude and I went to see Mr. Steinmassl to have him help us draw up plans for our new house.
Feb. 20,1912 - Meda Cheese factory commenced operations for the season. Lester Ray hauled the milk from this part of the country. We sent one can, so did Ole & Porters. Rec'd 3 mail sacks full of garden and flower seeds from Jonathan Bourne. Gertie and I will distribute them tomorrow.
Feb. 25,1912 - Sunday school & preaching by Rev. Clark.
Feb. 27,1912 - The grading for the Oretown Gospel Church was started this morning. Ole and I broke first sod about 10 A.M. Those present were Father, Willie, Ole & family, Porters, Mrs Follett, Franklins, myself & family.
March 4,1912 - Herbert's first day of school.
March 6,1912 - Ole put some new floor in his barn. Planned some on our house to be.
March 11, 1912 - My wife and Mrs. Gillock went to Cloverdale- Wife got her new teeth.
March 15, 1912 - Went to Foster mill to order lumber for new house. Ordered nails, cement, doors, windows, etc. from the Cloverdale Merc. Co. - also 11,000 dressed lumber. At present they are running the Clov. saw-mill.
March 19, 1912 - Today is Father's birthday.
March 20, 1912 - I hauled 13 cases of cheese to the Clov. Merc. Co.'s dock. "Della" came in this A.M., and the Gerald "C" passed out soon after. Our new lamp from Sears- Roebuck came to hand today- It's a beauty. Cost us $7.25 inc. handling.
March 24, 1912 - I hauled Ole's and my milk, also Rock's and Jensen's to Neskowin this morning as the boiler in Oretown Factory is out of commission, and for the last week, we have had to send to Meda, and Neskowin. Oretown people are talking of Co-Operating and owning their cheese factory.
March 26, 1912 - People of Oretown met to discuss corporation of the Cheese Factory, and later met at the Grange Hall for more discussion on matter.
