Excerpts from the Lars John Redberg Diaries of 1909 - 1912 of Life in South Tillamook County especially of Oretown, Oregon.

Edna Redberg very kindly excerpted these interesting portions of the diaries and provided them to NVMS. The complete diaries of Lars John Redberg are in the Pioneer Museum in Tillamook, Oregon. They were donated by Erwin and Edna Redberg.

Sept. 13, 1911 - Gasoline schooner"Patsy" came in today.
Sept. 14, 1911 - "Patsy" went out today. Hamlin Commenced work hauling "Gerald C." to the channel today.
Sept. 15, 1911 - Four boats of gillnetters were arrested today - Henry Brooten, Harry Southmayd, Bert Ray and Jim Barbour.
Sept. 16, 1911 - We boiled fine tar into our net.
Sept. 26, 1911 - Ole and Willie caught a sand shark on the bar this morning
Sept. 27, 1911 - "Patsy" came in today
Sept. 30, 1911 - Ole, Willie, and I went to Sand Cape today after huckleberries. Not many. "Patsy" went out this evening.
Oct. 8, 1911 - Large tides - whale drifted in on Beach at Neskowin.
Oct. 9, 1911 - The "Gerald C." was pulled into the channel at 11:45 A.M., on the large 9'-3" tide. Rough near the rock.
Oct. 10, 1911 - Mae Wilson and G. R. Schaeffer were married today
Oct. 13, 1911 - "The Della", while trying to cross out, was washed ashore nearly 1 mile north of the bar.
Oct. 14, 1911 - Cliff Mattoon is fishing with me.
Oct. 15, 1911 - The Gerald "C" had a hard time crossing out over the bar today at 4:30 P.M. Was nearly beached again.
Oct. 18, 1911-
Earl Porter commenced fishing with me.
ashore on the Siletz bar today.
Oct. 22, 1911- Earl and I caught a Sturgeon.
Oct. 23, 1911- The "Della" was floated in to the bay at the noon today.
Oct. 24, 1911- The "Della" went out.
Oct. 25, 1911- Dinner at home with my family. Herbert's 6th birthday. Gerald "C" came in today with 1000 cases of empty cans.
Oct. 26, 1911- Gerald "C" went out today loaded 1500 fresh salmon. A govt. ship was outside the bar today and raised the old buoy and planted another. Weiss' sawmill burned this evening.
